QPR three points above drop zone after ‘cavalry’ lose
QPR are now just three points above the relegation zone after another dismal defeat.
For the third match in a row they conceded an early goal, with Max Power’s penalty enough to give bottom side Wigan a rare win.
Rangers had declared the return of “the cavalry” ahead of the trip north – and a number of players returned to the side.
But one of that “cavalry”, Leon Balogun, gave away the spot-kick as the same defensive shortcomings which have plagued QPR’s season were immediately evident again.
Balogun clumsily fouled Danel Sinani after the visiting defence had been caught out by a routine long ball.
Chris Willock also returned to the side and Ilias Chair came on as a half-time substitute, but Rangers still struggled to create clear-cut chances.
Willock’s cross was flicked wide by Chris Martin, and Wigan keeper Ben Amos produced a late save to keep out a strike from Kenneth Paal.
It was Rangers’ eighth defeat in their past nine matches – and Huddersfield coming from behind to beat Middlesbrough dragged them ever closer to the bottom three.
QPR: Dieng, Dickie, Balogun, Dunne (Chair 45), Laird (Drewe 79), Dozzell, Johansen (Dozzell 75), Field, Willock (Adomah 75), Martin, Dykes (Lowe 66).
Subs not used: Archer, Amos.

Who would have believed the performances that this lot managed at the start of the season could drop to this level?

The club has become a laughing stock. The worst team to wear the shirt for years and I’ve been a season ticket holder for over 30 years this regrettably may be the last
