Wally Downes has been approached about replacing Steve McClaren in a coaching role at QPR.
Manager Harry Redknapp is looking to make an addition to his backroom team following McClaren’s recent departure to take over as Derby boss.
And Downes, a Hammersmith-born lifelong R’s fan, looks set to fill the void.
He has been out of the game since leaving his job as first-team coach at West Ham in December last year, having previously had similar roles at Southampton and Reading.
The 52-year-old, who had a spell as Brentford manager between 2002 and 2004, spent most of his playing career at Wimbledon.
Downes later spent many years as a coach at Crystal Palace where he worked with Steve Coppell, who took him to Brentford in 2000.
