Key QPR defenders dismiss speculation

QPR defenders Steven Caulker and Nedum Onuoha have insisted there has so far been no sign of other clubs attempting to buy them.

West Brom are believed to be interested in Caulker, who has been linked with several other clubs including Crystal Palace and Bournemouth.

But the 23-year-old centre-back said: “There’s nothing. There’s just been a lot of speculation but nothing concrete.

“I’m getting my head down and working hard here – and things are looking good. The vibe among the boys is very good and if I stay here I’ll be more than happy.”

Latest speculation over QPR duo Austin and Phillips

Onuoha, meanwhile, has been installed as Rangers captain, with club captain Clint Hill, who turns 37 in October, not expected to be a first-team regular during the coming season.

There was speculation after the end of last term that Onuoha was a target for Premier League clubs following QPR’s relegation.

But while bids have been rejected for Charlie Austin and Matty Phillips from Leicester and West Brom respectively, Onuoha says there has been no indication Rangers will receive any offers for him.

“There’s not been anything at all and that’s probably a good thing,” he said.

“With lads like Charlie and Matty, their loyalties are here but when people are talking about interest from other clubs it must be hard not to think about it.

“I’m not in that situation so all I’m thinking about is the start of the season.

“I’m in the same situation as I was two years ago, where I’m disappointed to have gone down but QPR are my employers and you have to do everything you can for them.

“I’ve felt what it’s like to be successful in the Championship and if things stay the same then I’d like to feel that again.”
