‘It’s good to be back’ says fit-again Carroll

On-loan Tottenham midfielder Tom Carroll was delighted with his return to action in QPR’s victory against Bournemouth.

Carroll had to go back to White Hart Lane for treatment after suffering an ankle injury while playing for England’s Under-21 side in October.

It was an untimely blow for the youngster as he was beginning to find his feet after a difficult start to life at Loftus Road.

Phillips scored as QPR eased to victory.

But he resumed training with Rangers last week and was handed a starting place for the 3-0 win against a Cherries side that was second best throughout.

“It was good to be back after the few weeks out injured,” said Carroll.

“At the time of the injury I was gutted because it was just starting to go well for me here and for the England Under-21s, so it came at a bad time. Now I’m just looking to get games under my belt.

“I did a week training back at Tottenham with Tim Sherwood and the other coaches just to get my fitness back and I think it was really positive for me and helped me last the 90 minutes tonight.”

Charlie Austin’s 27th-minute opener – the striker’s 10th goal of the season – put the R’s ahead and the recalled Junior Hoilett doubled the lead nine minutes after the break.

Matt Phillips, on as a substitute, rounded off a good night for Harry Redknapp’s side by scoring his first QPR goal.

Carroll added: “No game’s easy in this league but we played some good stuff tonight, especially in the second half for periods.

“To score three goals is also really promising for us after winning by the odd goal a lot recently.”
