Hull City 2 QPR 1
Dame N’Doye’s last-minute goal denied 10-man QPR a point at the KC Stadium.
It looked bleak for Rangers after Nikica Jelavic volleyed in the opening goal and Joey Barton was sent off.
But Charlie Austin, back after a foot problem, headed in Matt Phillips’ fine right-wing cross six minutes before half-time – the striker’s 14th goal of the season.
With full-back Darnell Furlong making his senior debut, injury-hit Rangers kept Hull at bay until N’Doye headed in Robbie Brady’s left-wing cross.
Striker Jelavic had punished some half-hearted defending by putting Hull ahead in the 16th minute.
The visitors failed to deal with Tom Huddlestone’s free-kick and Jelavic pounced on Steven Caulker’s weak header to fire into the bottom corner.
Furlong, son of former QPR forward Paul Furlong, almost equalised with a header that was tipped away by keeper Allan McGregor.
Rangers were reduced to 10 men just after the half-hour mark when Barton, yellow-carded in his previous seven matches, was shown the red card after lashing out at Huddlestone.
But they still managed to haul themselves level when Austin guided Phillips’ perfect delivery in the net.
Austin celebrated by mockingly pretending to have a sore knee. Following a medical, Hull pulled out of a deal to sign him from Burnley prior to his move to Loftus Road.
QPR, beaten in all 12 of their away matches before Harry Redknapp’s departure, defended solidly in the second half and looked set for their fourth point from two away games under new boss Chris Ramsey.
That point was snatched away when N’Doye struck shortly after being denied by a stunning save by keeper Rob Green.
