Half-time tactical change worked for Bees – Frank

Thomas Frank said a half-time tactical change helped Brentford storm to a derby victory over QPR.

Frank’s side won 3-0 at Griffin Park, where they took control after a goalless, even first half.

Bees boss Frank told his players at the interval that balls in behind the Rangers defence could open up the visitors.

And the all-important opening goal came from a penalty by Neal Maupay after Grant Hall was adjudged to have bundled over Ollie Watkins as they chased Moses Odubajo’s ball over the top.

Another ball over the top led to the second goal, with Maupay skipping past keeper Joe Lumley before unselfishly teeing up Benrahma for a simple finish.

Sergi Canos’ deflected strike made it three in the final seconds and capped a great day for the Bees.

Frank explained: “At half-time I said we needed to go more in behind them and you could see that just a simple ball led to the first goal.

“The second goal was beautiful – we opened them up. I was confident we could do it.”

Maupay’s goal took the striker’s tally for the season to 23.

“I want 25 now. I don’t know what he wants, but I want 25,” said Frank.
