Stan Bowles was given a hero’s reception at his benefit match at Loftus Road, where QPR lost 1-0 to Bournemouth in a pre-season friendly.
The iconic former Rangers number 10, who has Alzheimer’s disease and was making what his family say will be his final visit to the ground he spectacularly graced in the 1970s, was cheered by the 9,000 crowd as he led the teams out along with his former team-mates Gerry Francis and Don Shanks.
His name was also sung loudly during a standing ovation in the 10th minute and when he walked around the pitch at half-time.
Jordan Ibe got the game’s only goal, scoring from close range four minutes before the interval.
Earlier, QPR strikers Matt Smith and Conor Washington both send shots wide.
In the second half, R’s keeper Alex Smithies produced a fine save to deny Lys Mousset and Yeni Ngbakoto almost equalised when he hit the post with a last-minute free-kick.

Good to see Scowen replacing himself on 57 minutes.
