Carroll is expected to remain at Rangers

QPR manager Harry Redknapp is confident Tottenham will allow Tom Carroll to stay on loan at QPR.

A clause in Carroll’s season-long loan at Loftus Road enables the north London club to recall him this month.

Spurs boss Tim Sherwood appeared to give an indication of his intentions by refusing QPR permission to select the midfielder in the FA Cup.

Redknapp subsequently drew up a shortlist of possible signings were he to lose Carroll, but now believes the player will stay for the rest of the campaign.

“We’ve had no word from Tottenham about him going back, so everything looks okay,” said the Rangers manager.

“We’re hopeful. You don’t know – Tim could pick up the phone at any time – but I’ve got a feeling he’s going to stay. Tim hasn’t rung me to say otherwise.”

And Redknapp is convinced staying at QPR would be better for Carroll’s development.

“It’s been a good learning experience for him I’m sure. It’s different to playing for Tottenham in Under-21 games,” he said.

“The Championship is a lot more physical and I think Tom needs to play, but it’s Tim’s decision.”
