R’s to make Hewitt available for loan

QPR plan to send striker Troy Hewitt out on loan for the first half of the season.

Hewitt disappointed a host of clubs by joining Rangers from Harrow Borough in February and several of them have since enquired about signing him on a temporary basis.

It means there will be no shortage of takers next week, when R’s boss Neil Warnock makes the 21-year-old available for a five-month loan along with teenager Michael Doughty.

Warnock said: “We’ve already had people asking about Troy and he’ll probably go somewhere until Christmas. We need to make sure it’s the right loan move for him.”

Hewitt has missed some of Rangers’ pre-season campaign because of a calf problem but featured in this week’s friendlies at Crawley and Woking.

So too did Doughty – son of Nottingham Forest chairman Nigel Doughty – and Warnock is also keen for the midfielder to pick up first-team experience having impressed at youth and reserve level.

Meanwhile, Millwall are waiting to learn whether they can take Rob Hulse on loan, and a number of Championship managers are waiting to see if Akos Buzsaky makes it into Warnock’s 25-man squad for the season.

Rangers will not be offloading Rowan Vine to Doncaster, who decided not to retain him following a recent trial.
