QPR are yet to discuss a new contract with Jack Robinson despite the defender’s excellent form this season.

Robinson, whose current deal at Loftus Road runs out in the summer, has impressed after switching from left-back during Rangers’ injury crisis in central defence.

While there have been no discussions with the club to date, the 24-year-old is optimistic about the prospects of extending his stay in west London.

“That’s not been on my mind so much, a new contract,” said Robinson.

“Because I’d been out injured so long I just wanted to play games and get back to playing well, which I think I am doing.

“As long as the fans are happy and the manager’s happy, then I’m happy. I’ve not heard anything yet (about a new contract), but that’ll come with the performances, I think.

“All I can do is keep playing. I think it does help me in the long run, being a versatile player – you saw that when Lynchy (Joel Lynch) came on (against Cardiff) and I moved to left wing-back.”

Until recently, Robinson’s opportunities at Rangers had been limited.

He featured only eight times in the two years that followed his arrival from Liverpool and a season-long loan at Huddersfield.

But he has cemented a regular place in the side this season, racking up 21 appearances and scoring the first two senior goals of his career, both against Birmingham last month.

He added: “That was the goal for me this season; to establish that place and I think I’ve done it. I’m happy playing week to week. But you never know with the gaffer, he likes to change it.

“My confidence has just come from playing every week. I’m a big confidence player so when my confidence is high I like to try things in the game.

“Sometimes they come off and sometimes they don’t, but that’s a big part of my game.”
