Loic Remy has denied suggestions he chose to join QPR rather than Newcastle for financial reasons.
Speaking at a press conference to officially unveil him as a Rangers player, the Frenchman insisted his relationship with Harry Redknapp was a major factor in his decision.
The R’s boss had previously spoken to Remy while trying to sign him for Tottenham and has broken QPR’s transfer record by clinching his £8m capture from Marseille.
Remy initially declined to discuss a move to Loftus Road with Redknapp, who later suggested their rapport meant the striker felt too embarrassed to tell him he was not interested in joining Rangers.
But the club remained hopeful their offer would persuade Remy to choose them ahead of Newcastle, who wanted him as a replacement for Demba Ba.
Remy said: “It’s true that I hesitated between Newcastle and QPR. I met the staff at Newcastle and the time came when I had to make a decision.
“The finance didn’t come into it, because Newcastle offered me a very good contract as well. It’s in no way a decision based on financial reasons. It was not based on money in any way.
“I made the decision based on two factors. First, I knew Harry Redknapp and secondly I’m really excited about the project here.
“I already knew the coach because he followed me before and it’s my dream to play in the Premier League.
“I think Harry is someone who can get me to improve as a footballer both technically and tactically. He can help me progress.”
