Akos Buzsaky is determined to take his opportunity to rescue his QPR career.
The Hungarian, whose contract expires at the end of the season, was set to be made available for transfer later this month.
But the sacking of Neil Warnock as manager and Alejandro Faurlin’s knee injury have handed Buzsaky a chance to show he can perform in the Premier League.
“To be so low that I wasn’t even travelling with the team has never happened to me in my life.”
He has started all three matches under new boss Mark Hughes and produced an excellent display in Saturday’s vital win against Wigan, scoring a spectacular goal.
It has been a dramatic turnaround for the midfielder, who was resigned to leaving Loftus Road only weeks ago.
“In the Christmas period I wasn’t even in the squad. I wasn’t even travelling with the team. That was really hard and really testing for me,” said Buzsaky.
“To be so low that I wasn’t even travelling with the team has never happened to me in my life. But I’m strong enough mentally to get through that and I’m sure people can see that I was not going to give up.
“It was difficult not even being in the squad. For the home games I still came to watch and when the team were away at Swansea I watched on television. Even when I wasn’t in the team, it’s still my team.
“Of course, when you are sidelined that much you are thinking [of leaving]. I want to play football and if you’re not playing and not in the plans you are thinking all sorts of things.
“But in football everything changes so quickly. There’s no point thinking too much, you just need to give 100% on the training pitch and wait for your chance. Now I’ve got my chance and I want to take it.”
Buzsaky was very much Rangers’ star man before a series of injuries, not to mention the arrival in west London of Adel Taarabt.
The 29-year-old secured a place in Warnock’s Premier League squad in August, although he was well down the former manager’s pecking order.
But while colleague Joey Barton has been quick to put the boot into Warnock following his departure, Buzsaky refuses to follow suit.
He said: “I didn’t have any injuries this season. I was always available and wanted to play.
“Every footballer wants to play and I was the same. I always tried to give 100% at the training ground but for some reason I wasn’t part of the plans.
“But I don’t think it’s important now. My career is my career – it’s really about QPR and the club.
“I don’t really want to talk about what’s happened before and why I wasn’t playing. That’s in the past. This is a good moment for us. We’ve had a comfortable home win and everyone can see how united we are.
“We’re going to push forward from now. If you see the dressing room and the players we’ve got, we shouldn’t talk about surviving – we should be a comfortable mid-table team like we were at the start of the season.
“In football there are always ups and downs. We’ve been down and hopefully now we’re on the up.”
