Harry Redknapp remains unconvinced that QPR would be better off playing with two up front – even if he is able to sign another striker during the transfer window.
Redknapp is looking to add at least one forward to his squad, with the likes of Everton’s Nikica Jelavic and West Ham’s Carlton Cole among his targets.
But the Rangers boss is one of many managers who believe a 4-4-2 system can be ineffective – and a recent goalless draw at home to Blackburn when he opted for second striker did nothing to change his mind.
“We played Blackburn with two up front and never had a shot on goal,” said Redknapp.
“It doesn’t mean that because you play with two up front you’re suddenly going to have loads of shots at goal.
“You have to be able to control the game to get chances to score. We’ve played with two up front and had chances, and had two and not had a shot.”
Problems in front of goal mean Rangers have so far based their promotion challenge largely on having a solid defence, but Redknapp is satisfied with their performances this season.
“I’m happy with how we’ve played,” he insisted.
“We are short on goals, that is a fact, but playing with two up front may not make a difference.”

Two up front is unnecessary providing the midfield up the work rate - not stroll about like it is at the moment. An isolated striker might just as well stay on the bench. A sole striker needs wingers who can turn defences and deliver accurate crosses (Townsend style) and someone who can supply from the hole behind him. We don't need a striker at all if all our goal attempts are shots from 25 yards.
