Redknapp: No plans to move for Defoe
QPR boss Harry Redknapp has insisted he is not planning an attempt to sign Jermain Defoe on loan from Tottenham.
Redknapp has previously tried to take the England striker, who played under him at Spurs and Portsmouth, to Loftus Road.
Defoe is reported to be set to join Toronto FC, so could be available for a short-term loan deal before the MLS season begins.
Redknapp has therefore been linked with a move to sign him, but said: “I would love him on loan for a couple of months but I couldn’t see a possibility of it happening and we’ve never discussed it.”
Redknapp came close to signing another Tottenham striker, youngster Harry Kane, during the August transfer window, but doubts the 20-year-old will be made available by recently-appointed Spurs boss Tim Sherwood.
He said: “Harry came on at Man United so I think he’s in Tim’s plans.
“I’d be surprised if Tim, if he loses Defoe, [lets Kane leave] as he’d only have two strikers.”
Meanwhile, Spurs are expected to make a decision on Tom Carroll’s future next week.
