Redknapp insists QPR can still stay up

QPR manager Harry Redknapp insisted his side are still capable of avoiding relegation despite their defeat against fellow strugglers Aston Villa.

Rangers’ 3-2 loss means they are seven points adrift of 17th-placed Villa and remain rooted to the bottom of the Premier League with only eight matches left to play.

“You’re probably looking at four wins and two draws [to stay up]. It’s a tough ask but it’s not impossible,” said Redknapp.

“You’ve got to keep going – what else can you do? There’s still plenty of games to go. If we keep playing well we can win four or five games.”

Redknapp admitted that Rangers had “thrown away” a third straight victory and felt all three Villa’s goals were preventable.

He said: “We could have had three or four goals in the first half, their keeper made some unbelievable saves early on.

“In the end I just wanted to get to half-time 1-0 up.

“But we messed around with it and they broke on us. The ball hung in the box and it should’ve been dealt with.

“For the second goal, there were three challenges and we should’ve dealt with it. The third goal was a real poor goal.

“The lads are disappointed – we’ve thrown it away really from where we were.”

Redknapp added that goalkeeper Rob Green missed the game because of a virus which has also affected Clint Hill and Bobby Zamora this week.
