Redknapp: English clubs are reluctant to sell
QPR manager Harry Redknapp says a reluctance among English clubs to sell players means he may have to recruit from abroad.
Since last season’s relegation, Redknapp has preferred to sign players known to him and who have experience of English football.
But with the likes of Blackburn’s Jordan Rhodes seemingly only available at sky-high prices, Rangers are considering other options as they look for another striker.
They have discussed signing Auxerre forward Paul Georges-Ntep, who is wanted by Rennes but is keen on a move to London.
The club is also pursuing a loan deal for Inter Milan’s Ishak Belfodil, with Parma, who co-own the player, seemingly willing to compromise having initially insisted they wanted him sold for £7.5m.
A number of other possible signings have been identified ahead of next week’s transfer deadline.
Redknapp said: “It’s so difficult at this time of year. Who’s going to let good players go? It’s very hard to get players out of clubs.
“In England everyone’s fighting in the Premier League to get in the top six, and 10 of them are fighting against relegation and are not going to let good players go.
“The Championship is the same, so you look abroad and you’re taking gambles in lots of cases that really you don’t want to take.
“What we did this year was to bring players I knew, who I’d worked with or tried to sign before, and they’ve come in and done exactly what I expected of them.”
