Manager Harry Redknapp is confident QPR are close to signing at least one of the centre-backs they have been pursuing.
Porto defender Rolando has been one of Rangers’ transfer targets for some time.
The Portugal international, 27, snubbed previous approaches from the club – both since Redknapp took over and when Mark Hughes was in charge.
But there is growing optimism at Loftus Road that Rolando will agree to a move, while other central defenders are also being considered.
Redknapp has therefore sanctioned the offloading of Anton Ferdinand to Turkish club Bursaspor on an initial loan deal until the end of the season.
Ferdinand, signed by Neil Warnock in 2011, has been out of favour for some time and Hughes was frustrated in his attempts to replace him during the previous transfer window.
“I’m looking to change things around,” said Redknapp.
“I’ve got a few irons in the fire this week so I’m willing to let a few people go to bring one or two in.”
Meanwhile, Redknapp says there have been no offers for Jamie Mackie and claims there is little chance of Rangers signing Brede Hangeland or Jonas Olsson.
