QPR boss Harry Redknapp felt he had no choice but to substitute Jose Bosingwa at half-time against Newcastle because of the anger being directed towards the defender from fans.
Relegated Rangers were ahead through Loic Remy’s early penalty before Bosingwa helped the Magpies into a winning position.
He conceded a penalty by fouling Hatem Ben Arfa, who fired home from the spot, and was then involved in a mix-up with keeper Rob Green that led to the visitors’ winner.
Bosingwa was then barracked by furious supporters before being replaced by Redknapp at the interval along with the dismal Stephane Mbia.
And Redknapp said: “You can’t play when there’s that sort of negativity around the place, it wasn’t going to help, so I decided to change it.
“He cost us a couple of goals and I decided to bring on Shaun Derry, who’ll always give you an honest performance, and Fabio.
“I’m not blaming him entirely. I just felt there was not a good feeling and, trying to get back into the game, we needed the crowd behind us and they were obviously unhappy with him.
“We needed a lift at half-time so I decided to make the changes.
“We started well but once Newcastle got the penalty we seemed to lose everything and were poor. They were horrendous goals to concede.”
Bosingwa, a Champions League winner with Chelsea, perhaps sums up the expensively assembled, highly-paid squad that has failed to perform throughout the season.
And Redknapp repeated his warning that a major struggle lies ahead in the second tier unless changes take place.
“The team we had out there today would not finish in the top half of the Championship,” Redknapp insisted.
“Something has got to be done. That’s a fact. They’ve not got the quality. We’re short of good players who can really play at the top level.
“You might say they have the quality as they’ve played at other clubs, but it doesn’t work that way.
“We’ll try to do something but it will be difficult to shift players. It will be very hard.”

The Eliot sending off was blatant, two clear bookings and the penalty was laughable, how can he give that when the player still had the ball and hadn't been fouled.
100% Redknapps fault yesterday though, to pick the same dreadful team week after week and then wonder why we keep losing is getting a tad frustrating.
Well done Harry, you can always bring Barton back for next season. It was not so much that we won more like your defence surrendered even though the officials seemed to be on your side, a Cisse goal disallowed, Elliot sent off both extremely dubious decisions. It is a pity you did not have any real say in the players the club brought in or that you were not manager for the full season I think you would have survived if you did.
Not my favourite manager but certainly better than our Parsnip.
