Harry Redknapp has admitted defeat in his bid to sign Joe Cole for QPR.
Cole, who played under Redknapp at West Ham, is set to rejoin the east London club from Liverpool.
And Redknapp believes Rangers’ recent 3-0 home defeat against the Merseysiders was a major factor in the former England star’s decision.
He explained: “He probably looked at it and thought ‘Harry I love you but I don’t think you’ll stay up’.
“I would have liked to have him. He’s good around the place and has a good attitude.
“I understand. West Ham love him, he’s going back there and I wish him all the luck in the world.”
Redknapp added: “I’m not even close to getting anyone. Joe was the only one I really tried to get in the last couple of weeks.
“I thought he was coming for sure, but then West Ham came in for him.”

Harry, please don't give up on Cole. Give us 10 million and he is yours for a snip. He is still one of the best midfielders in the world.
