Head coach Chris Ramsey stressed that QPR must be patient in their bid to return to the Premier League after their season ended with a 5-1 thrashing at Leicester.
Rangers’ relegation to the Championship was already confirmed going into the game and Ramsey, who was appointed on a permanent basis earlier this week, believes it will take time for the club to adapt.
“Everybody knows that we are going to be in a rebuilding phase. We have a long-term plan to make sure that we’re on a stable footing for a long time to come,” he said.
“It’s important that people are patient with what we’re going to do.”
Reece Grego-Cox, 18, made his full debut for QPR while Ramsey named five substitutes under the age of 23 – something that he sees as a cause for concern.
He said: “We had quite a young bench, which needs to be looked at because we only had one senior sub in Junior Hoilett today.
“When you think about where Leicester were [at the beginning of the season] and the depth in their squad, we need to have a look at that.”
His side’s inexperience was apparent from attack to defence as Grego-Cox wasted a glorious opportunity to get the visitors back into the game at 2-0, and a misjudged header from debutant youngster Cole Kpekawa let Andrej Kramaric slot home Leicester’s fifth goal.
“Some of our defending was schoolboy, as people would say,” Ramsey added.
“And with the few chances we had, we weren’t able to capitalise on them at crucial points of the game. It has probably been the story of our season.”
