QPR’s bid to sign defender Michael Dawson from Tottenham has stalled.
Rangers have so far been unable to agree personal terms with the England international, who has been told he can leave White Hart Lane.
Mark Hughes has not given up hope of persuading Dawson to move to west London but has admitted that talks have not gone well.
“At the moment it’s not where I hoped it would be,” said the R’s boss.
“It may change closer to the transfer window closing – perhaps we’ll revisit it – but at the moment it’s not progressing.”
But Hughes confirmed that progress has been made in attempts to offload Joey Barton to Marseille.
Rangers are keen for Barton to join the French club on loan and believe they may be able to agree a deal.
Hughes explained: “I said before that there had been some communication in terms of e-mails exchanged and interest expressed.
“Since then I think things have moved forward. I’m not sure where things stand at the moment, but it is something that could happen.”
