QPR still want Junior Hoilett to return to Loftus Road.
Manager Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink hoped the Canadian winger would sign a new deal when his contract expired during the summer.
Hoilett, 26, made it clear straight after the end of last season that he was keen to leave and had no intention of re-signing.
But with Hoilett still without a club after being unable to secure the top-flight move he wanted, director of football Les Ferdinand has revealed that Rangers are still looking to tempt him back.
“The door has never been closed on Junior,” Ferdinand said.
“I’ve spoken to him and the manager has spoken to him on numerous occasions.
“As we all know, he was waiting for a move to the Premier League and he’s not had that yet.
“He’s a free now and will get itchy feet at some stage – I can’t believe he doesn’t want to get back in. So we’ll keep knocking on the door.”
Hoilett, who can join a club outside of the transfer window as he is a free agent, caught the eye during the second half of last season but was a major disappointment for most of his four years at QPR.
However, Ferdinand is confident that if the player did end up back at Rangers there would be no return to Hoilett’s days of under-performing.
Ferdinand said: “We saw at the end of last season the player we thought we were bringing here at the start of his contract.
“The environment that he was involved in before enabled him to be the way he was.
“It’s a totally different regime here now and he understands that. He saw that last season.
“So if Junior Hoilett came back here I think he’d have an understanding that the club’s going forward.
“I can understand people’s reservations, but if it’s someone who can benefit the club going forward then you’ve got to look at it.”
