QPR manager Harry Redknapp wants a decision from Tim Sherwood over the short-term future of Tom Carroll.
Tottenham are able to recall Carroll and Benoit Assou-Ekotto from their season-long loans at Loftus Road this month.
Rangers have been told they can keep Assou-Ekotto for the rest of the campaign but Spurs boss Sherwood has indicated that he could take midfielder Carroll back to White Hart Lane.
Sherwood wanted Carroll to remain available to play for Tottenham in the FA Cup so refused QPR permission to select him for their recent third-round game at Everton.
Redknapp expected final verdict on Carroll soon after that trip to Goodison Park and is keen to know whether he needs to being in another midfielder.
He is concerned as Rangers are currently without Joey Barton, Jermaine Jenas and long-term injury victim Alejandro Faurlin.
“It’s really up to Tim what he wants to do,” Redknapp explained.
“I know Tim likes him an awful lot and Tom was excellent at Ipswich the other week.
“I wouldn’t be sure about what they they’ll do. I wouldn’t be definite about that one.
“If Tim wants to take him back then we’ll need a bit of time to try to find somebody else.
“I haven’t spoken to Tim for a week or so but I will be speaking to him, because I wouldn’t want to leave it until the last day and then if he goes back we’ll be short.”
