QPR v Barnsley player ratings

QPR beat Barnsley at Loftus Road to register a third consecutive home win. Here’s how we rated each Rangers player in the 2-1 victory.

Alex Smithies: 7

Largely untroubled for much of the game, the Rangers keeper dealt with everything that did come his way until he could do little to prevent Tom Bradshaw’s late goal when a defensive error left him exposed.

James Perch: 7

Despite a clumsy challenge on Callum Elder that earned him a booking, Perch performed well and was unlucky not to score with a header that rattled the Barnsley crossbar before going off injured early in the second half.

Nedum Onuoha: 6

No glaring mistakes, but the skipper sometimes looked uneasy and found himself pulled out of position too frequently, particularly when attempting to deal with Adam Armstrong’s runs.

Grant Hall: 6

Won just about everything in the air but, having got away with one major slip in the first half, he was caught napping by Bradshaw and allowed the Tykes to reduce the deficit 10 minutes from time.

Jake Bidwell: 7

A crucial clearance off the line denied Marley Watkins late in the first half and he followed that up with another timely block from Andy Yiadom as Barnsley pursued an equaliser in the closing stages.

Pawel Wszolek: 7

Gave Elder the slip and supplied the cross that led to QPR’s second goal. It came during a second-half spell in which the Pole really began to impose himself.

Ryan Manning: 7

Always at the heart of the action, the youngster chased and tackled to good effect, justifying his return to the side. 

Massimo Luongo: 6

Did a steady job in midfield for Rangers on his return to the starting line-up.

Luke Freeman: 8

He started on the left-hand side but buzzed across the pitch in an energetic performance, setting up Perch’s near miss and seizing on any a shooting opportunity that came his way.

Idrissa Sylla: 7

There was a touch of good fortune about Sylla’s seventh-minute goal, but he put in a good shift and was in the right place at the right time again to force Angus MacDonald’s own goal.

Yeni Ngbakoto: 8

The Frenchman’s goal against Cardiff gave him a huge injection of confidence, which was evident here as he set up Sylla’s goal and went close to adding another with a rasping volley soon afterwards.

Darnell Furlong: 6

Having replaced Perch at right-back after Hall went off just after the restart, Furlong looked solid and made a couple of vital challenges to stifle Adam Hammill towards the end.

Conor Washington: 7

Gave Rangers a good counter-attacking option after joining the fray for the final 20 minutes in place of Wszolek and was also willing to track back when required.
