QPR v Wolves player ratings
Ten-man QPR suffered a second defeat in three matches since Ian Holloway’s return to Loftus Road for a second spell as manager. Here’s how we rated the Rangers players in their 2-1 loss to Wolves.
Alex Smithies: 8
Once again Rangers’ best player by a large distance – which says a lot about their shortcomings this season. He produced a string of saves, the majority coming after the second Wolves goal. But for their outstanding keeper, Holloway’s side would have been hammered.
James Perch: 5
Did some good things before being sent off for a second yellow card following a silly challenge on Matt Doherty 11 minutes before half-time. He had earlier denied Ivan Cavaleiro with a vital challenge in the box and, at the other end, Rangers might have been awarded a penalty when Perch’s cross struck Doherty’s hand.
Nedum Onuoha: 5
Competed well in the first half and came close to scoring with a volley. Struggled in the second half though, with Rangers’ defence all over the place at times.
Joel Lynch: 6
A mixed night for the defender. Won a fair amount of challenges but had a lucky escape after letting Cavaleiro away from him in the first half and was beaten by Helder Costa in the build up to the second goal. He later scored his first goal for QPR only to miss a glorious chance to equalise by failing to connect when unmarked six yards out.
Jack Robinson: 6
Another who had a mixed night. Passed fit to play following a hamstring problem that was initially expected to keep him out, Robinson got forward well from left-back as Rangers made the early running. But he was caused all sorts of problems by Costa, who linked up with Dominic Iorfa at will on the flank.
Grant Hall: 6
Looked composed in midfield but was later sloppy when he dropped back after Perch’s dismissal.
Sandro: 6
Making his first league start of the season, the Brazilian put himself about early on but faded. Wolves played around him with ease.
Massimo Luongo: 6
Encouraged to play from the left with license to drift inside, he worked hard and tried to make things happen but the numerical disadvantage made it tough for the Australian, who was unable to make much of an impact going forward and at times left Robinson exposed.
Tjaronn Chery: 6
Lively early on, trying his luck with a couple of shots on goal as his team initially enjoyed the upper hand. But he became less influential as the tide turned.
Conor Washington: 6
His movement was good, but he squandered a potential chance when his control let him down near the edge of the area. With Rangers down to 10 men he was sacrificed at half-time, with Yeni Ngbakoto brought on in his place.
Sebastian Polter: 6
Another who struggled as game wore on. He performed an important role in the first half, occupying defenders to create space for other attacking players.
Yeni Ngbakoto: 6
The summer signing had a tough introduction to English football and now a tough reintroduction after two months out of action. For the second successive game he found it hard to make an impact after coming on and gave the ball away cheaply on a couple of occasions. But he worried Wolves with his pace and determination in the final minutes as Rangers pushed for an equaliser.
Karl Henry: 6
Did a reasonable job after coming on for Sandro.
Idrissa Sylla: 6
Came on for Polter midway through the second half and had more success in the air than the German – not least when he headed down for Lynch, who should have equalised.
