QPR ended a troubled season with Matt Smith volleying in a spectacular winner. Here’s how we rated each Rangers player in the 2-1 victory at Sheffield Wednesday.
Commanded his area and did well when called upon, which wasn’t often.
A cracking performance at right-back following a recent dip in form. Produced a couple of crucial challenges in the first half – including a superb last-ditch tackle on Steven Fletcher – and set up the opening goal by pulling the ball back for Josh Scowen.
Sloppy on the ball at times and his lack of pace made him look vulnerable, but overall he was decent enough and his burst forward led to the winning goal. A truly bizarre decision to award a penalty for a supposed foul by the German on Fernando Forestieri.
Calm and composed at centre-back, where he surely could have done a job earlier in the campaign.
Harshly adjudged to have fouled Marco Matias for the second Wednesday penalty. Gave the ball away on occasions but competed well and got forward when possible.
Had a weak penalty saved and flatters to deceive some of the time, but he showed plenty of nice touches and was involved in many of Rangers’ brightest moments.
Stamped his authority on the midfield and was involved in the build-up to both Rangers goals.
Has ended the season really well. Scored with a composed finish and won countless challenges.
Terrific work-rate at both ends of the pitch. His efforts didn’t lead to much in an attacking sense but he gave as good as he got up against the much more experienced Liam Palmer and his excellent defensive work was important.
Always a threat in the air. Missed a good chance in the second half but more than made up for that with a thumping volley in injury time to give Rangers the points.
The final ball isn’t quite there but Osayi-Samuel, operating as a striker, showed his potential with an exciting performance full of pace and directness.
Picked up more first-team experience and was involved in the build-up to the winner.
