QPR plan to approach Chery about new contract
QPR plan to approach Tjaronn Chery about extending his contract after this month’s transfer window closes.
Rangers expect Chery to attract Premier League interest when the window reopens in January if he maintains the kind of form which saw him score 10 goals last season.
He is determined to establish himself in the top flight and moved to Loftus Road from FC Groningen last year on the understanding it would help him eventually achieve his aim.
Given that, and the fact the Dutch midfielder will be 29 next summer when he would be entering his final year of his current contract, Rangers could struggle to persuade him to commit his long-term future to the club.
It means they could be faced with a decision further down the line if offers are made for Chery and he will not sign a new deal.
They will at least attempt to avert that possibility by seeking contract talks with Chery, who scored in Sunday’s 3-0 win against Leeds.
Keeping Chery sweet
Earlier this year Rangers rejected an approach from Maccabi Tel Aviv, insisting they wanted to keep him despite the player not being a first-team regular at the time.
They have received no recent enquiries about Chery or Steven Caulker despite Premier League clubs being linked with the defender.
And they are no closer to offloading Sandro. The Brazilian failed a medical at Sporting Lisbon earlier this summer and interest from Russian club Rubin Kazan came to nothing.
