QPR opened their pre-season campaign with a 0-0 draw at Exeter.
Rangers gave a debut to new signing Danny Simpson, while striker Andrew Johnson – back in action after a long-term knee injury – also featured.
Rob Green produced an early save to deny Exeter’s Jake Gosling but the match was largely dominated by a Rangers side that included Luke Young.
Veteran full-back Young, who is looking to salvage his career following a long struggle with a hip condition, served up a decent cross from the right which was headed wide by Bobby Zamora.
Shaun Wright-Phillips and Stephane Mbia both had efforts saved by Grecians keeper Artur Krysiak before the lively Armand Traore was unlucky not to score for Rangers after a skilful run.
The visitors made wholesale changes at half-time, with Simpson and Johnson among the players introduced.
Johnson forced a good save from Krysiak and Jose Bosingwa then went close with a free-kick before being replaced by 21-year-old Belgian midfielder Ryan Sanusi of Dutch club Willem II, who is on trial with the R’s.
First-half QPR team: Green, Young, Onuoha, Hill, Traore; Wright-Phillips, Mbia, Granero, Hoilett; Jenas; Zamora.
Second-half team: Murphy; Bosingwa (Sanusi 71), Ferdinand, Ben Haim, Suk-Young; Simpson, Derry, Faurlin, Park, Mackie, Johnson.
