QPR star set to play in Under-21 game

QPR midfielder Alejandro Faurlin is set to take an important step on the road to a first-team return by featuring in a match later today.

The Argentine is due to play for Rangers’ newly created development side – which can include three outfield players over the age of 21 – in their opening game of the season against Charlton this afternoon.

Faurlin came on as a substitute in a recent friendly against Augsburg – his first outing since suffering cruciate damage in an FA Cup tie at MK Dons in January.

He is now back in full training and manager Mark Hughes is keen for him to step up his comeback.

Hughes said: “He’s looking good. He just needs game time now so we’ll put him into the game against Charlton and see how it goes.

“He’s been training fully with the group. We were a bit protective of him initially because of the nature of his injury, but now really the gloves are off and he’s training well.”
