QPR are planning to give Adel Taarabt a vastly improved long-term contract.
Rangers were open to offers for the 22-year-old prior to Mark Hughes’ appointment as manager in January, and spent much of last summer trying to negotiate his sale to Paris St-Germain.
Taarabt was unsettled and out of favour under Hughes’ predecessor Neil Warnock, who refused his pleas for a pay rise following Rangers’ promotion to the Premier League.
The Moroccan was also unhappy that the move to PSG, which he believes was close to being completed, did not go through.
But he has since caught the eye in a number of matches under Hughes and the R’s boss has made cementing Taarabt’s future at Loftus Road one of his top priorities.
Taarabt’s current deal expires next year and Rangers will look to open talks with him at the end of the season.
Goalkeeper Paddy Kenny is another player whose contract runs until 2013 and hopes to also be offered new terms – but as yet there is little sign of that happening.
Rangers discussed a new deal for Kenny prior to Warnock’s departure. Talks were later pencilled in for the first week of February but have not taken place.
