Johansen a doubt for QPR’s trip to Sheffield United

Stefan Johansen is one of several QPR players being assessed ahead of Tuesday’s trip to Sheffield United.

The midfielder was forced off after picking up an injury during Saturday’s loss to Fulham.

Mark Warburton’s side head to Bramall Lane on the back of three successive defeats and are three points outside the play-off places, having slipped outside of the top six.

“Stefan limped off but we will see how he is. We have a few coming in this morning with bangs and bruises,” manager Warburton said.

“Obviously yesterday (Sunday) was very sore for a few of them. It’s just that time of the season.

“The medical team are looking after them and trying to control injuries, but no player is ever 100% fit at this time of the season and we have five or six bodies out there in the medical room and they (the medical staff) are working their magic, so let’s see what happens.”

Rangers have been hit hard by injuries this season, with four goalkeepers sidelined and attacking talisman Chris Willock out for the rest of the campaign because of a torn hamstring.

Striker Lyndon Dykes made his first appearance in seven games on Saturday after recovering from a hamstring injury of his own, but Warburton insists he won’t use injuries as an excuse for his side’s poor run of form.

“It’s football, it’s about dealing with these situations – every team has them, whether it be people dealing with Covid, people out of contract, losing players to injuries,” Warburton said.

“We have had a tough, probably unprecedented, time with injuries, losing four wing-backs and now four goalkeepers. I have never heard of that happening before.

“But you can’t sit here and moan about it, you have to find a solution. We have an excellent replacement in Kieren Westwood and we have to look forward and get on with it.”
