QPR are set to table a formal offer for Rennes midfielder Yann M’Vila.
Rangers boss Harry Redknapp, who wanted to sign the player while Tottenham manager, is hoping to take him to Loftus Road.
M’Vila was recently reported to have turned Rangers down, but talks have been ongoing for some time and at the weekend Redknapp made his second visit to France to see him.
French media then reported that the 22-year-old was undergoing a medical in London after an agreement had been reached.
However, QPR are yet to make an official offer for M’Vila but are likely to do so in the next 48 hours, with Rennes willing to do a deal and discussions appearing to be progressing well.
Samba Diakite could sign for Rennes as part of that deal, while M’Vila would join Rangers either on an initial loan with a view to a permanent move, or with a release clause enabling him to join another Premier League club if QPR are relegated.
Arsenal have previously watched M’Vila, who has played for France 22 times but is banned from the national team until July 2014 after breaking a curfew to visit a nightclub ahead of an Under-21 game.
QPR are still trying to land Loic Remy, having recently been given permission along with Newcastle to hold talks with the striker after Marseille agreed to sell him.
Remy has declined to even meet with Redknapp but the R’s remain hopeful the 26-year-old can be persuaded to consider a move to west London, although Newcastle believe they are close to signing him.
Meanwhile, Rangers are yet to make improved offers for West Brom’s Jonas Olsson and Peter Odemwingie but plan to do so after Tuesday’s FA Cup third-round replay against the Baggies.
Albion turned down previous bids for the duo. Forward Odemwingie is keen to make the move, while Fulham and West Ham are interested in defender Olsson and are both monitoring the situation.
Meanwhile, DJ Campbell is wanted by Crystal Palace.
