QPR look likely to sign Dutch midfielder Jonathan de Guzman after telling Villarreal they are ready to meet the asking price.
The Spanish club have indicated they want £7m, which appears to have scuppered Swansea’s chances of signing him.
De Guzman, 26, has spent the last two seasons on loan with the Welsh club and Rangers boss Harry Redknapp was alerted to his potential availability after Swansea were unable to agree a deal.
Redknapp, who last week sealed the £5m signing of Jordon Mutch from Cardiff, still wants at least one more midfielder before the Premier League opener against Hull City next weekend.
He would like to sign both De Guzman and his Netherlands team-mate Leroy Fer.
But with Norwich demanding big money for Fer, the Rangers hierarchy have told Redknapp he can only have one of them.
Meanwhile, Redknapp believes Loic Remy could be fit for the Hull game.
The France striker recently saw a move to Liverpool collapse and hasn’t featured in any pre-season matches.
But Redknapp said: “Hopefully, with a week’s training, he’ll be fit to play next week.
“He’s fine, he’s trained great and his attitude has been first class. He’s been very good. He’s here and he wants to work, get in the team and play.
“He’s worked really hard on the training ground – I couldn’t have asked for any more from him.
“Hopefully he’ll stay. We’re all geared up for him to stay.”

Yeah!!! I really hope that Remy stays. Right now we're interested in signing hundreds of midfield players and only have 3 recognized strikers.
Now we're talking!
