QPR secured a point in an uninspiring end-of-season encounter.
Goalkeeper Matt Ingram was handed his Rangers debut and was barely called into action before making a fine save to deny Sean Morrison midway through the second half.
After a dismal first half, Rangers at last managed an attempt on goal when Sebastian Polter scuffed a shot wide nine minutes after the restart.
A minute later, Cardiff went close to breaking the deadlock when Scott Malone’s cross was ahead against the post by Anthony Pilkington.
Ingram, signed from Wycombe during the January transfer window, showed his potential when he prevented Morrison from scoring.
He was beaten in injury time, but Clint Hill cleared Kenneth Zohore’s shot off the line and Sammy Ameobe fired the loose ball over the bar.
At the other end, Massimo Luongo was denied by a near-post save by David Marshall after being found by substitute Ben Gladwin – Rangers’ best chance of the game.
Keeper Marshall also kept out a long-range effort from Matt Phillips.
