QPR are looking to finalise a loan move for Paul Smyth after giving him a new contract.
Smyth’s deal was due to expire next year but he has been given 12-month extension, meaning he is now under contract at Loftus Road until 2021.
The 21-year-old Northern Ireland international, signed from Linfield in August 2017, impressed after breaking into the R’s first team last season.
However, he has been largely overlooked since Steve McClaren took over as manager last summer.
Smyth has long been lined up for loan move during this month’s transfer window and has not featured in the league since McClaren took him off at half-time against Sheffield United in August.
But he is well liked by the QPR hierarchy, who have been keen to cement his future at the club.
A number of clubs have expressed an interest in Smyth. Rangers are keen for him to make the right move and play regular first-team football for the rest of the season.
