QPR’s Washington set for Northern Ireland call-up

QPR striker Conor Washington is in line for a Northern Ireland call-up and a chance to secure a place in their squad for this summer’s European Championships.

Manager Michael O’Neill watched the 23-year-old prior to Washington’s January move to Loftus Road from Peterborough United, where he scored 27 league goals during a two-year spell at the League One club.

Washington qualifies to play for Northern Ireland through the grandparent rule and O’Neil plans to call him up for this month’s friendlies against Wales and Slovenia.

“I intend to include him,” O’Neill confirmed. “He’s very, very keen to be involved. It’s refreshing to see.

“I think he’s still finding his feet at QPR. The games he has started in he’s played well. I think he needs to get a goal to get him going, but his performances have been good.”
