Danny Simpson can see huge similarities between QPR’s squad and the Newcastle side he won the Championship with in 2010.
The full-back was a mainstay of the Magpies team that bounced straight back from relegation by running away with the title.
Joey Barton was also a key player for Newcastle that season and Simpson says QPR’s start to the campaign has got him and the midfielder reminiscing.
“We were chatting in the dressing room, saying this is what it was like when we were at Newcastle,” said Simpson.
“The team were together, we all knew what to do and we were all digging in and working hard.
“We both knew what we were doing at Newcastle and we both know what we’re doing know.”
Rangers continued their unbeaten run with a gritty 1-0 win on Saturday at Bolton, where Simpson was part of a back four that kept their second clean sheet in a row.
The former Manchester United man, who also won the Championship in 2007 with Sunderland, is pleased with the team’s professional performances but insists have yet to hit top gear.
“I think at the start of the season everyone is still trying to find their feet,” he said.
“The transfer window is still open but once that closes and everyone knows the squads that they’ve got, we’ll be able to show more on the pitch.
“We do want to be a footballing team and create more, but at the minute we are doing the ugly side really well.”
