QPR make offer for Cardiff defender Caulker
QPR have made an offer for Cardiff City’s much sought-after defender Steven Caulker.
Rangers are one of several clubs keen on the 22-year-old England international, who is expected to leave Cardiff following their relegation last season. He has an £8m release clause in his contract.
He has been tipped to join one of the top Premier League clubs, with Liverpool and Everton reported to be leading the race to sign him.
The R’s have nevertheless registered their interest, with manager Harry Redknapp looking to bring in at least one centre-back this summer.
Redknapp appears to have clinched the signing of former England and Manchester United star Rio Ferdinand, 35, with a deal having been agreed in principle.
And the Rangers boss knows Caulker well, as he played under Redknapp at Tottenham.
Caulker represented Great Britain in the 2012 Olympics and scored on his England debut against Sweden later that year.
Spurs opted to sell the player the following summer and Cardiff, then newly promoted to the top flight, paid £8m to sign him.
He made 39 appearances for the Welsh club last season, scoring five goals.
Redknapp is also hoping to land Derby midfielder Craig Bryson, while a number of strikers are currently being considered as possible signings.
