QPR striker Kelman won’t be returning to Gillingham

Charlie Kelman will not be going back to Gillingham.

Kelman, 20, returned to QPR this week after becoming frustrated at being overlooked by Gills boss Steve Evans.

He joined the Kent club on a season-long loan in August but has started just three league matches.



Rangers and Gillingham agreed that Kelman would return to west London for a week or so while a decision was taken on whether his loan will continue.

QPR boss Mark Warburton has been keen to establish what has gone wrong for Kelman at Priestfield.

And it has been decided that the youngster will remain with Rangers with a view to arranging a loan move elsewhere later in the season.

Warburton wants Kelman, who was signed from Southend United last year, to pick up more first-team experience.

Gillingham and AFC Wimbledon wanted him in the final stages of the summer transfer window and there is an acceptance at Rangers that the wrong choice was made.

Speaking to Kent Online at the weekend, Evans said: “He was frustrated in not having enough game time.

“He has gone back to QPR and we will monitor that for a week or so and see where we are. He is our player until January and I had a long chat with Mark Warburton.

“He is a good kid and when he goes on loan to League One he wants to play, but one thing we say to every loan player; you have to earn the right.”
