QPR look to Hoddle ahead of new season

Glenn Hoddle looks set to join QPR before the start of the new season.

Manager Harry Redknapp is keen to bring in the former England boss, but the exact nature of his role has not yet been finalised.

As things stand, Hoddle, who has also managed Chelsea and Tottenham, is likely to come in as a part-time coach, although a possible broader role at the club has been discussed.

The Hayes-born 57-year-old currently has other commitments, meaning he may be unavailable for matchdays but would have a significant training-ground input during the week.

Redknapp has previously shown a willingness to add to his already experienced backroom team.

Last year he brought in another former England boss, Steve McClaren, who subsequently landed the Derby manager’s job.

And the proposed appointment of Hoddle is one of a number of additions to the management team Redknapp has been looking into ahead of the new campaign.

Hoddle, who was in charge of the national side between 1996 and 1999, made his name as a player for Tottenham and England.

He later took over as player-manager of Chelsea and spent three years at Stamford Bridge.

Hoddle’s last managerial job was at Wolves, where he resigned in 2006 after the club failed to win promotion to the top flight.

Redknapp’s contract expires at the end of the season.
