QPR boss Harry Redknapp believes goalkeeper Rob Green could force his way back into the England reckoning if he maintains his current form.
Much has been made of Julio Cesar’s lack of first-team action ahead of next year’s World Cup in his native Brazil.
But Redknapp says his current number one is capable of not only staying in the Rangers side, but also earning an international recall.
Redknapp said: “I’m sure he can. We’re not overloaded with great English keepers, that’s for sure.
“There’s Joe Hart and then after that it’s up for grabs I would think between five or six English goalkeepers.
“English keepers have gone out of fashion in the last few years. Most of the top clubs now seem to have foreign keepers.”
Green, who won the first of 12 England caps while playing in the Championship for Norwich, endured an unhappy first season at Loftus Road.
He performed poorly after his move from West Ham, prompting Rangers to accept an opportunity to sign Cesar from Inter Milan.
Now back in favour, Green, 33, has kept sixth consecutive clean sheets this season.
Redknapp added: “He’s full of confidence at the moment. He made couple of saves at Yeovil last weekend that were absolutely word class.”
