QPR youngster Gubbins set for loan move

QPR are looking to send youngster Joe Gubbins out on loan.

The centre-back, 19, made his senior debut last season and Rangers are keen for him to get more first-team experience.

A number of clubs have expressed interest after being made aware of Gubbins' availability.

Manager Mark Warburton said: “It’s a path the young players have got to take.

“They’re not being forgotten or falling by the wayside. They’ve got to go and learn the game.

“Joe Gubbins was training with the first team at the end of last season and all the way through the pre-season period.

“He’s done exceptionally well and he’s a really talented young centre-half.

“But he needs to go out and play alongside a guy who needs to pay his mortgage, who can’t lose a bonus and has to win that tackle and every header counts.

“That’s real football and when he comes back to QPR he’ll be a better player for that experience.”

QPR loan stars

The likes of Ebere Eze, Ilias Chair and Osman Kakay have flourished after leaving QPR on loan in recent years.

Eze, who recently made big-money move to Crystal Palace, was at Wycombe, while Chair impressed during a stint at Stevenage.

“Ilias went to Stevenage and did very well,” said Warburton.

“When I first came here, in the first week there were about 10 calls for him: 'Can I take Ilias?’

“That tells you he did well and impressed a lot of people.”

Gubbins featured as QPR’s development side returned to action with a 3-0 defeat at Charlton on Monday afternoon.
