QPR finish with a thrashing at Leicester

Leicester City 5 QPR 1

QPR finished bottom of the table after their Premier League season ended with a thrashing at the King Power Stadium.

Jamie Vardy, Marc Albrighton, Leonardo Ulloa, Esteban Cambiasso and Andrej Kramaric scored for Leicester, who dominated from the start.

Relegated Rangers’ goal was scored by Charlie Austin – his 18th of the campaign – while teenage striker Reece Grego-Cox made his first start and there were debuts for fellow youngsters Brandon Comley and Cole Kpekawa, who came on as late substitutes.

Leonardo Ulloa almost put the home side ahead after two minutes with a curling effort that went just wide of the post of Alex McCarthy, who started in goal for QPR in place of the injured Rob Green.

And with quarter of an hour gone, Rangers conceded the opening goal for a Premier League record 28th time this season.

Riyad Mahrez was allowed space on the edge of the box to turn and shoot, and McCarthy could only parry the ball into the path of Vardy, who was onside and slotted home with ease.

QPR’s best chance of the first half fell to Matty Phillips, who collected the ball from a Foxes clearance and fired a fierce drive inches wide.

Just as Rangers were getting into the game, Albrighton was on hand to double Leicester’s lead.

A cross from Jeffrey Schlupp evaded everyone except the former Aston Villa man, who drilled a sweet half-volley into the far corner two minutes before half-time.

Grego-Cox missed a glorious chance to get Rangers back into the game early in the second half, and Leicester soon put the game beyond doubt.

Ulloa cleverly diverted a goalbound effort from Wes Morgan past McCarthy with his torso, moments before Cambiasso made it 4-0 with a drive into the bottom corner.

A glancing header from Austin pulled one back for QPR in what is expected to be his final match for the club.

But it was mere consolation as Kramaric latched onto a loose ball to fire past McCarthy late on.

QPR (4-4-2): McCarthy; Onuoha, Hill, Dunne, Suk-Young (Kpekawa 87); Phillips, Henry (Comley 80), Barton, Fer; Austin, Grego-Cox
Subs not used: Murphy, Hoilett, Doughty, Furlong, Petrasso.
