QPR end trip with shoot-out victory

QPR rounded off their pre-season trip to Italy by winning the Trofeo Bortolotti tournament after beating Atalanta on penalties.

Rangers played two 45-minute matches, first beating Portuguese side SC  Braga 1-0 courtesy of Jay Bothroyd’s first goal for the club, and then drawing 1-1 with Atalanta.

In attendance was Air Asia boss Tony Fernandes, who has been discussing joining the Loftus Road board.

After Adel Taarabt crossed for Alejandro Faurlin to score, Atalanta levelled to force a penalty shoot-out, which Rangers won 3-2.

Hogan Ephraim and Akos Buzsaky missed with their penalties but Bothroyd, Taarabt and Bradley Orr scored, while the Italian team failed to convert three of their spot-kicks – one of which was saved by former Ipswich goalkeeper Brian Murphy, whose move to QPR following his recent trial is likely to be confirmed next week.

Earlier in the evening, Orr served up a fine right-wing cross for Bothroyd to score the only goal against Braga.
