QPR’s Frey and Paal out for ‘some weeks’

QPR stiker Michael Frey will be sideined for a number of weeks along with Kenneth Paal.

Left-back Paal went off with a thigh injury during Tuesday’s 1-1 draw with Coventry – a match Frey missed because of a calf problem.

They have since undergone scans and have been ruled out for at least the next few games.

“Both have had scans and some tests. They will be out for some weeks. We don’t know yet how long, so we need to take it day by day,” said Marti Cifuentes.

Frey’s injury is a major blow for struggling Rangers as the Swiss 30-year-old has scored four goals this season and been by far their most effective forward.

Summer signing Zan Celar is yet to score or make any impact at all, leaving head coach Cifuentes potentially badly short of options in attack.

Paal is the only out and out left-back in the first-team squad, but Cifuentes does at least have options when it comes to replacing the Dutchman.

Morgan Fox can play at left-back, while Koki Saito did well after coming on to replace Paal in the Coventry game and operating as a wing-back.

“Koki has been training in this position quite a lot,” Cifiuentes explained.

“I’ve been talking a lot about players being adaptable and flexible. It’s the way I want my team to play, so I’m glad he had a good performance.”
