QPR have finalised the signing of goalkeeper Alex Smithies from Huddersfield Town in a deal worth close to £2m.
The 25-year-old has agreed a three-year contract at Loftus Road and will be available to be in the squad for Saturday’s game against Rotherham.
Rangers lined up Smithies after failing to agree fee with Southend United for the League One club’s highly-rated keeper Daniel Bentley.
Both men were targeted to compete for Rob Green’s place rather than replace him, as the R’s have been looking for a keeper since Alex McCarthy’s departure for Crystal Palace.
However, having recently been tipped to make a move to re-sign Green, West Ham have enquired about his potential availability.
Green, 35, left Upton Park to join the R’s in 2012. He has a year remaining on his contract.
