'Everyone wins' if Osayi-Samuel signs QPR deal - Banfield

Neil Banfield is convinced Bright Osayi-Samuel will eventually be snapped up by a Premier League side if he stays at QPR this season.

Manager Mark Warburton has told Osayi-Samuel and Ryan Manning they will not be selected unless he feels they are fully committed to the club.

Both players are in the final year of their contracts and offers of a new deal have been refused.

But Rangers are increasingly hopeful that Osayi-Samuel, who has played in all three of their matches this season, will sign a contract extension.

And first-team coach Banfield believes the 22-year-old winger would benefit from doing so.

“We want him to stay and I think, for his own development, he should,” Banfield said.

'Good opportunity'

“If he starts really firing again - and we’re seeing signs of that - I think it’s going to be a great year for him.

“I think that, like Ebere Eze, he’ll have a good year, get goals and assists, and the big clubs will come in for him.

“He can create plenty of chances for Lyndon Dykes. With Ilias (Chair) as well, I think they’ll create opportunities and get goals for us.

“Bright should stay. He’ll get a real good opportunity here at the Rangers.”

Banfield previously spent 21 years on the coaching staff at Arsenal

Osayi-Samuel has been linked with a host of clubs in recent months.

However, so far the only firm offer has been from Club Brugge, who had a £4.7m bid accepted before he decided against the move to Belgium.

Crystal Palace, who recently signed Eze from QPR, considered matching Club Brugge’s offer for Osayi-Samuel but did not do so.

Banfield said: “With a young player, all those rumours going around must have an effect on them. It would only be natural.

“But he’s really knuckled down, is focused on doing well and I’m sure he will.

“He’s worked tirelessly in training and I think in the end his hard work will pay off.”

QPR highlighting Eze example

Negotiations with Osayi-Samuel’s representatives are continuing this week in the hope of an agreement being reached.

Rangers have been quick to point to the fact that Eze signing a three-year contract in 2018 proved to be no barrier to a Premier League move.

“Everything comes from your football,” Banfield insisted.

“It’s a great club that gives young players that opportunity. You couldn’t ask for a better window to put yourself in.

“You say ‘I’m playing well, I want QPR to do well and if I get a move because I’ve done well then everyone’s happy’.

“Ebere did that last year. They should look at him and say ‘Well he did it. I’m going to do that this year, the club will do well and everyone wins’.

“Sign your contract, play your football and become a better player. Then everything comes from that.”
