QPR boss wants goals from midfield duo
Harry Redknapp says QPR need the likes of Leroy Fer and Jordon Mutch to chip in with goals and ease the pressure on Charlie Austin.
Rangers expect to sign former England striker Jermain Defoe in January but in the meantime much rests on the shoulders of last season’s talisman Austin.
And Redknapp said: “We need goals from other positions. You need Fer and Mutch to score some goals this year.
“Charlie knows he’s got to score and he took his goal well against Sunderland and I was pleased at how he played.”
Fer was outstanding against Sunderland but very poor in the 4-0 defeats at Tottenham and Manchester United.
Redknapp was unhappy with the Dutchman’s display against United and believes Fer is lacking fitness.
The Rangers boss also feels the summer signing recently linking up with the Netherlands squad hasn’t helped matters.
“I still think one or two of my players are still trying to get their fitness,” Redknapp explained.
“Fer has had two weeks away with Holland, not played a game and probably been stood around used as a cone or whatever while the first team play.
“He lacks fitness. He’s a fantastic footballer on the ball and if we can get him fit he’ll be a real asset.”
