Sinclair Armstrong’s half-time substitution in the 2-1 win over Wigan was because he felt “shattered” and also for tactical reasons, according to QPR boss Mick Beale.

Armstrong started his second game in a week and caused the opposition plenty of problems in the first half but was replaced at the break by midfielder Luke Amos.

Beale explained that the change was down to both tiredness and tactics.

“Sinclair was a tactical change,” Beale said.

“I’ve had to use him this week wisely. Physically, I know Sinclair struggles. Five minutes into the second half on Wednesday he was cramping everywhere.

“I had to ask Sinclair to go again, so I think it’s fair to say he was shattered again at half-time so that’s something we need to work on with Sinclair.

“The way that he plays, with the energy he uses, he’s not able to sustain it and that’s just the youthfulness and the energy that he has, so there’s no injury there.”

Tyler Roberts missed the game with a calf problem, while skipper Stefan Johansen was replaced just before half-time after also suffering an injury.

“Tyler Roberts tried to train yesterday to be available and still just felt something in his calf, so I didn’t want to take the risk,” Beale said.

“With Stefan, we’ll find out more when I get a chance to speak to the medical team. I think he felt something quite high up in his lower buttocks, so we’ll have to find out the extent of that.”
