QPR boss responds to criticism of style of play

QPR manager Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink has insisted that criticism of his style of play is wide of the mark.

Rangers were thrashed 6-0 at home by Newcastle last week and were dismal in Saturday’s 2-1 defeat at Huddersfield.
Some fans on social media, many of whom believe Rangers should play with two strikers, have been critical of Hasselbaink, suggesting he is too conservative.

“Conservative? I don’t think so. I don’t agree with that,” said the Dutchman.

“We’ve had two out and out wingers, a number 10 and a striker.

“When you’re winning, everything is good. When you’re losing, questions are going to be asked. That’s football and that’s normal.”

Hasselbaink admitted after the loss at Huddersfield that his players’ confidence had been affected by the Newcastle debacle.

However, speaking ahead of Wednesday’s EFL Cup tie against Sunderland, he said he remains confident they will turn things around.

“There is no doubt in my mind about the character of my players – no doubt whatsoever,” he declared.

“We’ve had a hit – a punch – and it’s now about getting back to where we were and better that.

“It’s a test, but we have to stay calm, relaxed and focused. We need to give the players confidence. My job is about getting the players back on track.

“It’s a time to stay calm and to stay with your beliefs. It’s time to work and stand up and take your responsibilities.”

  • I agree whole heartedly with Matt especially that Sandro should be playing.
It is evident that the club has leapt from over-spend to frugality without a transitional period and as a result the squad is laden with too many players that would struggle to shine in League 1. A judgement needs to be made with respect to the quality of the recruitment process, it is ultra competitive and QPR aren't competing.

If you want a manager that can take a player with issues and get him to play then JFH has no pedigree at this level. The manager that does is Neil Warnock, who we sacked thanks to one player's influence.

  • My analysis:
    1) Conor Washington is a bust
    2) Teams build up play in attack is very slow
    3) Karl Henry should not play
    4) Sandro should play since he is drawing a hefty paycheck and is a good player and our midfield is laughable
    5) We dont track back and defend. Need total football. That's Dutch aint it?

  • Since when has Cousins been an out and out winger? Why persist in playing Washington up front on his own when Stevie Wonder can see he isn't suited to the role? Why hasn't Shodipo hardly featured despite playing well when he has? Why have we only scored one goal from open play (Saturday and that was from an initial corner which was cleared back to Chery, so hardly open play)? Why is the football absolutely dreadful to watch? Why are attendances heading South at a rate of knots (with the exception of Newcastle, which was to be expected).

Ask him these questions and see what we get back. "It is what it is" no doubt!

It's a chore to watch Rangers at the moment and this clown needs to be gone sharpish!
